Throughout our history, Glenmary missioners have moved into counties, established the Church, nurtured communities to maturity, returned parishes to the local diocese and then moved on to areas of greater mission need. Since 1939, Glenmary priests and Brothers, along with coworkers, have successfully nurtured and/or established more than 100 mission communities. Today, our missioners continue to staff missions and ministries in Appalachia and the South.
The Glenmary community has developed three specialized commissions to facilitate ministries and provide information within and beyond Glenmary.
The Commission on Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation is a forum though which action on behalf of justice is fostered as a constitutive part of proclaiming the Gospel. In doing this the commission supports work that promotes human dignity, whether it be through local conversion of the transformation or social structures to build a more just society.
The Glenmary Ecumenical Commission helps Glenmary in its ecumenical leadership ministry, enhancing understanding, reducing alienation and fostering reconciliation among Catholics and both Evangelicals and Pentecostals, primarily in the Southeastern United States.
