THE GIFT OF BEING CHRISTIAN TOGETHER

A group of Catholics and Evangelicals is releasing the fruit of a new ecumenical dialogue on August 28, the Feast of St. Augustine. “The Gift of Being Christian Together: An Ecumenical Statement of Fidelity and Recognition” is a one-page document that identifies areas of common ground among the two largest Christian groups in the world. […]

Sts. Andrew Kim Tae-gŏn, Paul Chŏng Ha-sang & Companions

From today’s Scripture: “Accompanying Jesus were the Twelve and some women,…Mary, called Magdalene,… Joanna,…Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.”—Luke 8:2-3 Though we never hear this passage on a Sunday, I think it is important. It shows us that Jesus walked through the countryside and lived in a mixed group […]

REMEMBERING A DIFFICULT PAST

The movement for civil rights was forged in the last century, but continues today. A Glenmary group got on a bus and found out how.  This past May, a group of 30 Glenmarians and coworkers met in Birmingham, Alabama, and climbed aboard a pilgrimage bus. But this would not be a typical Catholic pilgrimage. This […]

GLENMARY PRIESTS FACE IMMIGRATION OBSTACLES

“It’s frustrating” can sum up the current situation for religious workers on visas in the United States. In April 2023, the State Department changed its policies on the process of approving requests for permanent residency. This change was in response to a backlog; applications from 2019 are just now being reviewed, creating a timing glitch […]

CHARITY TOGETHER: MATTHEW 25 MINISTRIES

In Macon County, Tennessee, Glenmary’s Holy Family mission joins with other local Christian churches to provide for those in need.  “Let us be Cyrus to one another,” says Glenmary Father Charles Aketch, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Macon County, Tennessee. “Let us give one another hope.” Father Charles is speaking to a small crowd […]

SIX CHRISTIAN TRADITIONS COME TOGETHER AT GLENMARY ECUMENICAL RETREAT

Drawn by Christ’s prayer that His Church would be one, representatives of six Christian traditions gathered at an ecumenical retreat organized by Glenmary Home Missioners. The retreat brought together: Anglicans, Catholics, Evangelicals (including Southern Baptists), Lutherans, Methodists and Pentecostals. They met on May 28-30 at a Catholic center in Saint Meinrad, in southwest Indiana. “In the […]

EUCHARIST: GLENMARY BRINGS THE FULLNESS OF FAITH

When Glenmarians come to a new town or county, they bring Jesus with them in a way that part of the country has likely never known. They bring him in the Eucharist. It’s important to remember that God is already present in the areas where Glenmary ministers. God is acting in the lives of each […]

GATHERING THE PEOPLE OF GOD

Things are busy for Glenmary’s Director of Ecumenism Nathan Smith. Among Nathan’s many projects, two in recent months point out the scope of his work. He led a dialogue on Eucharist at a Glenmary mission, then flew to Africa for an international gathering. The workshop Eucharist and Mission was at Glenmary’s Holy Family Parish in […]

A LAYWOMAN STEPS OUT IN FRONT FOR GLENMARY

After 18 years in the finance industry Linda Crisostomo took a leap of faith. She was succeeding in her career, making good money and earning the respect of her peers. She traveled, played golf, even went to Las Vegas, but she felt restless and empty. She made several big changes, one of which was signing […]

TO JOPPA MOUNTAIN, WITH LOVE

It was a perfect way to end a mission trip. Listening to Matthew’s Gospel at Mass before we departed for home put the week of volunteering into perspective. That’s why our group of Hope’s on the Way volunteers had driven more than 500 miles to the Appalachian Mountains northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee: out of love […]
